Recreational Leader (Alternate Title: Star Activities Director)

JOB SUMMARY
Join our vibrant team at Star Lab, where we elevate early childhood education through best practices and deep connections. As a recreational leader you will assist with all aspects of recess and recreation on the playground and surrounding areas. You will develop rules and expectations to keep the students safe, while also providing room for them to take reasonable risks and explore. You will respond to issues that come up and help students with challenges they experience. You will plan and lead activities for camp days on Fridays. 


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide active supervision of students during recess - 15 minutes at the end of every hour and 30 minutes at midday.
  • Get to know each student and help them progress on their individual goals.
  • Supervise student lunch - 30 minutes at midday - as well as aftercare.
  • ​Use provided work time throughout the week to plan and lead engaging activities and excursions for students on Fridays, in collaboration with other staff. 
Essential Functions​
  • Provide just the right amount of support to help a student become more independent in the long term.
  • Help motivate students to persevere through difficulty.
  • Energetic approach allows you to engage with students during both learning and play
  • Support diverse family backgrounds with a culturally rich perspective.
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or the equivalent required, with a passion for both learning and teaching.
  • Experience: At least one year of experience managing groups of children in a school, camp, or childcare setting. Additional training provided as needed.
  • Skills: Fluency in English (written and spoken), collaborative with different personality types, and able to hold firm yet respectful expectations.
  • Certifications: Not required​

Teaching Schedule
  • You will be have primary responsibility for students during recess duty and aftercare. 
  • Indoor activities will include supervising lunch, assisting with other needed tasks, and planning the camp activities for Fridays.
  • You will have consistent supervision responsibilities on Fridays when teachers are in meetings, and you and the other staff will run the day's activities.
Working Conditions
  • Active role involving significant movement and interaction with young learners.​
  • Prolonged periods standing.
  • Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Dress for comfort as you will be outside a significant amount of time outside in the Florida weather. 
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary: $35,000 annually, plus up to $2,000 bonus for meeting school goals.
  • Benefits: $6,000 healthcare contribution (pending finalization).
  • High quality of life with many positive relationships, opportunities to make a difference, and areas to grow and learn.
  • Full-time position, working 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, 190 days/year with summers and holidays off.
